Presentation of the Horizon Europe project MONTEVITIS

On June 7, 2023, starting at 3 p.m., Launch event of the MONTEVITIS project: "Integrating a Comprehensive European Approach for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Montenegro Viticulture" will be organized at the University of Donja Gorica (UDG).

The MONTEVITIS project is funded by the European Union within the Horizon Europe program and aims to enhane the research and collaborative capacities of the UDG in order to better understand the impact of climate change on the grapevine and propose mitigation measures. In addition to UDG, which is the coordinator of the project, the consortium consists of five other domestic (Institute for Hydrometeorology and Seismology, wineries: MNB Kruna, BUK, Vučinić Winery and Rajković Vineyards and Cellar) and five EU partners (Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Potsdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung, Università degli Studi di Firenze, Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology and Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação - Consultadoria Empresarial e Fomento da Inovação). Based on the experience of EU partners, the project will develop and adapt existing analytical models for the analysis of the impact of climate change on the physiological processes of vines, yields, ripening, quality of grapes and wines of different varieties. MONTEVITIS will apply ICT technologies to effectively address the problems of adaptation to climate change.

As the project aims to extend its outcomes to other agricultural sectors, the presentation welcomes all interested stakeholders which are directly or indirectly affected by climate change. This event represents an excellent opportunity for networking and knowledge exchange which will enhance Montenegro’s research and production capacities.
Additionaly, as part of MONTEVITIS activities, four workshops open to the public on viticulture and climate change will be held on June 8 and 9:

• Data Collection: Standards and Best Practices: MNE vs EU (UDG, June 8, 9:00),
• Climate Change in Europe: The Physical Science Basis (UDG, June 8, 10:30),
• Crop modeling and simulations applied to viticulture (UDG, June 8, 14:00),
• Climate change impact and mitigtion in Montenegro (MECO 2023, Budva, June 9, 9:30).
