At the invitation of the University of Donja Gorica (UDG) in Montenegro, a delegation from Beijing Union University (BUU), organized by the Confucius Classroom of Tourism, visited Montenegro from October 19 to 23, 2025. The research delegation was led by Chu Tian, Deputy Director of the Office of Science and Technology, and included Li Bai, Deputy Dean of the School of Tourism; Jiang Pengfei, Deputy Dean of the School of Management; and Han Xi, Deputy Dean of the School of Robotics. The primary goal of this visit was to further strengthen and implement comprehensive, in-depth cooperation between the two universities.
The University of Donja Gorica attached great importance to the visit. Veselin Vukotic, President of UDG, and Ivan Piper, Coordinator of the Faculty of Culture and Tourism, met with the delegation twice in person. President Vukotic discussed bilateral cooperation from a strategic perspective, expressing hopes to expand exchanges among professors through both online and offline formats, and to deepen collaboration in teaching, research papers, and scientific projects. He also proposed enhancing student exchanges through short-term winter programs, summer camps, innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, internships, and opportunities for Chinese students to learn the Montenegrin language. In addition, he suggested cooperation in tourism and cultural research, lectures, seminars, and the strengthening of Confucius Classroom programs and funding. He emphasized the shared goal of pursuing deeper cooperation for mutual development.

During the visit, the delegation engaged extensively in discussions and initiatives covering scientific research, faculty exchanges, student entrepreneurship, and the dissemination of science and culture. Milica Vukotic, Vice President of UDG and Dean of the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies, and Sandra Tinaj, General Manager, led research and project teams in multiple rounds of talks with the BUU delegation, involving deans and professors from several faculties. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation through faculty exchange programs, academic symposiums, joint applications for domestic and international research projects, co-authored publications, student entrepreneurship, and internship opportunities. They also agreed to advance research collaboration in fields such as artificial intelligence, tourism, arts, economics and culture, and big data.
The delegation also met with Marko Nisavic, Director of UDG’s Center for Entrepreneurship, Management and Business, to learn about UDG’s entrepreneurship education and explore possibilities for collaboration in student innovation competitions and startup projects.
The delegation delivered a series of lectures and seminars for students and faculty from UDG’s faculties of Culture and Tourism, China Studies, Design and Multimedia, Arts, Information Systems and Technologies, Applied Sciences, and International Economics, Finance and Business. These sessions demonstrated BUU’s strong academic depth in culture and its cutting-edge research capabilities, sparking great curiosity and enthusiasm among UDG students.
The delegation also visited the UDG Confucius Classroom, meeting both Chinese and local directors, Chinese language teachers, and students.
Additionally, the delegation toured the UDG campus, learning about Montenegro’s history and culture, the university’s founding history, and visiting the library, 3D laboratory, food safety and testing lab, and classrooms of the Faculty of Arts. They also viewed exhibitions of works from the Confucius Classroom competitions and UDG student design projects.
This visit, building upon last year’s exchange, marks a further step in promoting deeper cooperation between the two universities in research and other fields. In the future, the partnership between BUU and UDG is expected to continue developing in a more profound and sustained manner.
