UDG Welcomes a New Generation of International Students

With the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year, the University of Donja Gorica welcomed a new generation of students, including students who came to Montenegro from abroad to begin their academic journey at UDG.

As UDG continues to strengthen its international orientation, particular attention was given this year to the experience of international students from their very first days at the University. Starting studies in another country means much more than adapting to a new academic environment. It also means discovering a new city, understanding a different culture and learning how everyday life works in a place that will become home for the months and years ahead.

For this reason, UDG organized special orientation workshops in English specifically designed for international students. While the regular orientation programme introduces new students to the University, academic life and the principles of studying at UDG, these sessions were expanded to address the questions and challenges that are particularly relevant to students arriving from abroad.

The workshops introduced students not only to UDG, but also to Podgorica and Montenegro. They included practical information about navigating the city and everyday life, as well as an introduction to local customs, cultural norms and some of the unwritten rules that can make adapting to a new environment easier.

The aim was simple: for international students, arriving at UDG should not mean having to figure everything out on their own.

This approach reflects UDG’s broader commitment to internationalization and to creating an environment in which students from different countries can feel welcomed, informed and included from the very beginning. The University’s internationalization strategy similarly recognizes orientation, familiarization with Montenegro, its language and culture, and integration with local students as important elements of support for international students.

Through the ME Study in English project, UDG continues to further develop its international environment and improve the information, resources and support available to students who choose Montenegro and UDG as their study destination.

Because studying abroad begins long before the first lecture. It begins with understanding the place in which you are about to live.
