BUU Delegation of Research and Teaching Visit to UDG
At the invitation of UDG, the research and teaching delegation from Beijing Union University visited UDG from 1 to 6 December. The delegation was led by Lao Fengxue, Deputy Director of the Division of Science and Technology, and composed of Professor Zhou Yuji from the Department of Digital Media, College of Art and Associate Professor Yang Jingxin from Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Robotics, Professor Zhu Lifeng from the Department of Arts and Crafts, College of Art. The purpose of the visit is to attend several academic seminars with teachers and students of UDG and to discuss the research cooperation between the two universities, including research projects, papers publishing and academic conferences and research faculties exchange and visits. Prof. Zhu was invited to give lectures of Anthropology to students at UDG and to discuss about cooperation programs of the two universities in the field of art and culture.
The Rector Veselin Vukotic led Ivan Piper the coordinator of the Faculty of Culture and Tourism, and Tamara Radinović, Foreign Director of TCC, to meet the delegation. The Rector Veselin Vukotic discussed the cooperation between the two universities from a strategic perspective, hoping that the scientific research cooperation can take various forms and be implemented in practice. Professor Lao stated that the delegation will actively promote cooperation between the two sides in the field of scientific research, which can start with applying for international cooperation projects in the National Social Sciences Foundation and National Natural Science Foundation. The Rector Veselin Vukotic expressed his intention to not only learn the Chinese language, but also to have teachers and students learn more about China's history, culture, etc. He also expressed his desire for deep cooperation and mutual development through teacher and students exchanges, online courses, and double diploma program.
The research and project team led by Sandra Tinaj, the General Manager of the UDG met with the delegation. Both parties introduced the scientific research work, especially the key majors and projects. Both parties agreed to further strengthen various forms of academic discussions and exchanges, based on their research advantages and hot issues. Starting from jointly applying for international cooperation projects, both parties will deepen cooperation in areas such as digital Europe, student training and exchange, high-level scientific research projects, student practice, curriculum development and scientific research cooperation in fields such as food technology and food traceability, AI training, ecological environment, cultural tourism, digital economy, and big data.
Professor Lao met with scholars from Faculty for Food Technology, Safety of Food, and Ecology on the implementation of EU organic food standards, rapid testing of organic food, and the development of functional food and visited food testing laboratory.
Professor Zhou, together with students and teachers from the Faculty of Design and Multimedia and the Faculty of Arts gave the lecture and seminars, mainly introducing and discussing the knowledge and understanding of the Beijing Central Axis, which is listed in the World Heritage List recently, and many cutting-edge issues in visual communication design. She emphasized the essential comprehensive qualities of contemporary designers - interdisciplinary knowledge integration and cross-cultural sensitivity, which are regarded as indispensable core competencies in the field of design. Both parties believed that joint research can be conducted to jointly publish high-level papers such as A&HCI, and to deepen cooperation and exchange on cross-cultural communication and expression, as well as intangible cultural heritage. Professor Zhu also participated in the seminar activities.
Associate Professor Yang gave a series of lectures and seminars with teachers and students from the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies, the Faculty of Mathematics and Electrical Engineering and Computing, and the Faculty of Applied Sciences, mainly discussing the development of AI technology, intelligent design and manufacturing, and their application development in medical, materials and other fields. The achievements of Beijing Union University in autonomous driving introduced by Professor Yang have attracted strong attentions from teachers and students.
Professor Zhu gave lectures on Anthropology to students of the Chinese Studies, the Faculty of Culture and Tourism and the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of International Economics, Finance and Business.
The delegation was also invited to participate in the "Bridge" themed exhibition of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute and the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Tourism Confucius Classroom.
The delegation also visited the Confucius Classroom and met with the teachers and students. The students in the Confucius Classroom showed their language learning, calligraphy, Paper Cuttings. Professor Zhou demonstrated the paper cuttings technique. The delegation put forward suggestions for the development of traditional culture courses.
The delegation visited the campus and exchanged ideas with the leader of the Center of Entrepreneurship, Management, and Business to learn about the work of the student entrepreneurship management. They also had discussions with teachers and students from the 3D laboratory.
This visit has created a good start for the deep cooperation between the two universities in the field of scientific research.
