International Conference "Turkish and Balkans Relations: Past, Present and Future"

University of Donja Gorica, in cooperation with Istanbul Zaim University as well as with ADAM non-profit organization, organized and, at the same time, hosted Eleventh International Conference in Podgorica, on “Turkish & Balkan Relations: Past, Present and Future” Previously held international conferences that were organized on Balkan and in the region, indicate on the international aspect of the conference and the good international cooperation.  Some of the countries that have hosted the conference are: Bosnia i Herzegovina, Syria, Azerbaijan, Macedonia, Kosovo, Ghana, Ukraine, Bulgaria, ending with Tanzania in 2013.

Honor to open today's conference on UDG and to welcome present people went to Dr. Veselin Vukotic, Rector, UDG. Rector's presentation was followed by welcoming address by Dr. Mehmet Bulut, Rector, IZU. After their presentations the audience was welcomed by the Ambassador of Turkey to Montenegro Mr. Mehmet Niyazi Tanili. 

Rector prof. Dr. Veselin Vukotic welcomed all present and stated that he was honored to host such a conference. International conferences are a good opportunity to improve collaboration and to improve the Montenegrin and Turkish relations. UDG has a very good cooperation with Turkish universities and a large number of signed cooperation agreements with them. UDG is a young university, and it is a bridge between Montenegro and Europe. UDG is different and students are, in addition to learning, prepared for many challenges that await them in life. After graduation, it is important that the student is ready and able to cope with all challenges of both the private and business life. 

Rector Vukotic emphasized how important is his cooperation with Turkey, given that Turkey is one of the leading countries in Europe, and he hope that this conference will enhance relationships and bring mutual success, both to Montenegro and Turkey. 

Dr. Mehmet Bulut, Rector, IZU highlights that he looks forward to cooperation with Montenegro and that he is there because he wants to share his experience and experience of his university with the University of Montenegro and to discuss a little bit more about education and all projects with aim to enhance the academic sector and international cooperation. Mr. Mehmet Niyazi Tanili, Ambassador of Turkey welcomed everyone and said that he was happy because of the good relations between the two countries, and the successful cooperation that they have made in the past, and looked forward to future projects. He points out that the cooperation between the two countries is very important to the political, and the academic and cultural areas of both countries. 

Participants were greeted also by doc. Dr. Vladimir Kavaric, Minister of Economy who stressed the importance of cooperation of Turkey with Montenegro. In addition, he said also how important it is for Montenegro that a large number of Turkish investors are located in Montenegro and that in Montenegro they see a good business partner with whom they can deepen and expand cooperation even more. 

Minister Kavaric said that Turkish investors are today present in every important segment of the Montenegrin economy, such as metal and marine industries and tourism and that there are strong assurances that Turkish companies are willing to participate in the restructuring of the Montenegrin aluminum industry. 

Minister Kavaric pointed out that it is very important for Montenegro that the Governments of the two countries achieve good international cooperation and to open their doors for this on both sides satisfaction. 

At the conference, after doc. Dr. Vladimir Kavaric, Minister of Economy, who welcomed all present, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in Montenegro prof. Dr. Petar Ivanovic spoke also . 

Professor Ivanovic has presented scholarly work on the subject “Strengthening cooperation between Turkey and Montenegro with special attention to economic sphere” in which he stressed the importance of Turkish foreign policy towards the Balkans, the partnership between Turkey and Montenegro, as well as existing initiatives. The opening statements was followed by the presentation of papers on the subject "Turkish and Balkan Relations: Past, Present and Fu 

ture.” and discussion of that. 

Some of the presented papers on "Turkish and Balkan Relations: Past, Present and Future” were: 

  • “Development and improvements of bilateral relations between Turkey and Montenegro since 2006” presented by Dr. Olivera Injac. 
  • “Economic Integration and the Peace in the Balkans” presented by Dr. Senol Duman. 
  • “Investment opportunities in a context of new energetic paragidm (Montenegro and Western Balkans)” presented by Dr. Milica Dakovic. 
  • “SWOT analysis of methods of business connections between Montenegro and Turkey” presented by Dr. Nikola Perovic.
